  • Greatest Showman was truly awful. I've worked in musical theater for 25 years and it's the worst I've ever seen. And I've worked on the original version of Sound of Music, so I know awful lol.
edit: 30 seconds into the trailer: Oh yeah, I forgot about La La Land. Nevermind. That was worse.

  • Movie musicals about real people and events have always been mostly fiction. Watch Night and Day, the biography of Cole Porter. Pure fiction. Or Words and Music which features Lorenz Hart’s highly fictionalized and sanitized story. Movie musicals aren’t biographies. Oh, and Bohemian Rhapsody, also highly fictionalized. Don’t get your history from the movies. 😛

  • Zendaya was more convincing as a high school student in Homecoming

  • The bearded lady must have enjoyed being called a freak and getting paid for it otherwise she would have just shaved that beard off and joined society. In order to make sense she should have been more hirsute. Her whole body should have been covered in fur as were many so called freaks. But I know that this is a musical that is not supposed to make sense and just make people happy.

  • I agree. Barnum was a terribile person, but they just like used whiteout on him,his looks, his whole personality and turned him into something new.

  • Didn’t care for the choreography, it seemed aggressive or fierce but it didn’t quite match the wardrobe IMHO, it didn’t quite match to pull those moves off in leotards and bare feet.

  • yeah but i think serious musical people do not really feel this movie so much because the characters and motivations and musicality are so limited and unvaried.

Also how I went to the bathroom and everyone hated Barnum and then I come back and they’re singing and dancing with him!

  • We somehow got kids to idealise & like pirates even though they raped, stole & killed. Most seem fine with letting that slide by.
The way I see it, it’s a fun film to watch with good songs, and once you are made to actually care about the historical side, then you can learn the truth how he’s a horrible historical figure.

  • People are saying “you can’t do a musical about a person who lived over a hundred years ago and make it both accurate and interesting” did you forget about Hamilton? Even that show pointed out his mistakes!
