  • Will you be demonstrating this game on your channel?

  • Concerning Tichu: I made the same experience in teaching the game. Therefore, I devised „Tichu light“, a stripped-down version of the original game, much more suitable for beginners. The following changes are effected:
    1. After dealing cards you keep your entire hand, no cards are exchanged.
    2. The Mahjong (the 1) does not grant a wish.
    3. There are no bombs. A four-of-a-kind is „just another valid pattern“.
    4. The game ends when one team reaches or exceeds 500 points.
Although this cuts out much of the fun stuff, it speeds the learning experience and keeps the players focused on the primary mechanisms instead of the fancy stuff. Of course, this is only a temporary measure. Step by step, you integrate the ignored rules back into the game at whatever pace seems suitable until you reach the complete rule scope. This proved quite well in the past.

  • Hi Jon. Your pronunciation of „Man muss auch gönnen können“ was quite okay. The „ö“ letter is pronounced quite similar to the way you pronounce the „u“ in „turn“ or the „o“ in „word“. Easy. By the way, the game name roughly translates into „You must also grant something to others“. Greetings from Germany and thanks for sharing your thoughts. I‘ll take a closer look to this dice game now. I‘ve been aware of its existence but haven’t been able to play it so far. Stay safe, stay healthy!

  • Your "auch" is actually not that bad, Jon. Just pronounce the o umlaut like the o in "word" or the u in "burn" and you're there. 😉
I'd say Man muss auch gönnen können is more like a mix between Ganz schön Clever (that umlaut again… :D) and Silver & Gold. Fun game!

  • I loved the nitty gritty details of a good game! Glad you shared that with us!

  • An argument could be made that Festo! is an auction mechanic, not worker placement.

  • Thanks for the advice on Tichu. I really want to play Tichu and ordered just week or the two ago. It`s about to arrive.

  • Cool Jon! I actually talked to Clay the day after and he was raving about it! My copy showed up two days ago! I've never played but love card games! Have you tried custom heroes?

  • Tichu is a vietnamese card game played with a regular deck of cards. They stole that idea.

  • Sticheln/Stick Em is easily the weirdest and my favorite trick taking game! The fun is really hitting the other players with their trash suit and even getting hit yourself. But it's definitely fallen flat with people that don't like being "mean" or feel like they're being attacked. 100% a group dependent game.
